While the Frazi fighter is not as powerful or as advanced as the Earth Force fighters, the fighter still can be very effective and dangerous in the hand of a good starfighter pilot. The fighter has been used by the Narn in numerous battles and while it has limitation, it has held the day and kept the Narn alive. Like might be expected this is sometimes due to shear number of fighters used. In general the Narn technology is slightly inferior to that of Earth and much of their technology is stolen from the Centauri.
While in general the Frazi is inferior to the Earthforce Aurora Starfury, the Narn fighter is capable of both atmospheric operation and can leave the atmosphere as well. This problem has now been addressed by Earthforces by the Introduction of the SA-26 Thunderbolt Starfury but the Narn Frazi has been around since long before the war between the Humans and the Minbari.
For beam weaponry, the fighter carries 2 pulse discharge cannons that are in many ways similar to those mounted on the SA-23E Starfury. The cannons fire rapid fire bursts of plasma and have a slightly higher output than those on the Standard Starfury but since the fighter only carries two mounts, the damage the weapons can inflict is actually less than the weapons on the Aurora Starfury. Adding more cannons would not help the fighter because the power systems could not power the extra guns. While the beam weaponry of the Frazi lags behind the SA-23E Starfury, the missiles make up much of the lost firepower. The H model of Aurora Starfury and the SA-26 Thunderbolt Starfuries both carry missiles as well negating that advantage as well.
Unlike the Earth Force fighters, the cockpit of the fighter is pressurized which allows the pilot to move around and have more comfort when the fighter is on patrol. Like the Earth Fighters, the Narn Frazi does not have artificial gravity.
Listed is the formula to allow player and game masters to calculate the fighters velocity and distance traveled:
Model Type: Frazi Class Heavy Fighter
Vehicle Type: Double Engine Aerospace Fighter-Bomber
Crew: One
M.D.C. by Location:
Pulse Discharge Cannons (4): | 50 each
Engines (2): | 125 each | |
Wings (2): | 150 each | |
Reinforced Pilot's Compartment: | 125
[1] Main Body: | 350 |
Notes:
[1] Destroying two wings on the same side of the fighter will cause
the vehicle to crash from loss of control if it is flying within an atmosphere.
If only one wing is destroyed, the fighter will be -2 to strike and -4
to dodge. Destruction of the fighters wings has no effect on the fighter
in space but fighter will be unable to re-enter an atmosphere safely if
both wings on a side are lost.
[2] Depleting the M.D.C. of the main body will shut the Aircraft down
completely, rendering it useless and causing the fighter to crash if in
flight in an atmosphere.
Speed:
Driving on Ground: Not Possible
Flying; In atmosphere: The fighter can easily achieve escape
velocity (Mach 32.6 / 25053 mph / 40320 kph) within 5 minute. The fighter
has a maximum acceleration of 5 G. When the fighter is operating within
an atmosphere, pilot will normally keep velocity below Mach 10 (7695 mph
/ 12384 kph). The fighter has enough thrust to be launched from a platform
at a standstill position.
Flying; Space: The fighter does not have an effective top speed
but is limited by acceleration. Fighter can reach a top acceleration of
5 G but is normally limited to 1 Gs except in combat to conserve fuel.
Stardrive: The fighter does not have a jump drive but can use
already formed jump points such as those formed by jump gates. While in
hyperspace, the fighter can reach a maximum of 2.5 lightyears per hour.
This means that the Fighter could theoretically cover the Galaxy in about
48 month (will need to refuel very often and the fighters are not meant
to operate very far from their homebase or ship).
Range: The fighter has enough fuel for 20 minutes at maximum
performance. If fighter is operating at less maximum performance, the fighters
range is vastly increased. The fighter has 5 hours 20 minutes of endurance
if operating at only 1 Gs and for every increase of 1 Gs, the fighter burns
reaction mass twice as fast. Fighter uses hydrogen for fuel for a fusion
reactor. The fighter can operate with engines on standby to increase fighters
range.
Fighter has supplies for pilot for 3 days.
Statistical Data:
Height: 10.5 feet (3.2 meters)
Length: 21 feet (6.4 meters)
Wing Span: 52.5 feet (16 meters)
Weight: 17.6 tons (16 metric tons)
Power System: 1 Fusion Battery (At maximum output, duration
is 20 minutes)
Cargo: Minimal (Storage for small equipment).
Cost: 8.5 million to construct
Weapon Systems:
COMBAT BONUSES: The Narn Frazi heavy Fighter is fairly maneuverable
and accurate. Use the Phase World Starfighter combat (Elite or Basic) skill
with a -1 penalty to strike and dodges (Pilots skills and statistics still
add. to bonuses)
